Panic attack counselling My aim in therapy is first to teach techniques that minimize the severity of panic attacks, and then to help clients identify the real problem and address it. I realise you think you might die when you are experiencing one, but you won't; no one ever has. An anxiety/panic attack is a form of smoke screen. It masks the real problem that is too difficult for people to confront and so they relegate it to their unconscious. In other words, rather than address the real problem, they have an anxiety attack. All their emotion and energy is then directed at the attack rather than the underlying problem. My aim in therapy is first to teach techniques that minimize the severity of the panic attacks, and then to help clients identify and work on the real underlying problem. When this is done clients find they have no further use of the smoke screen of anxiety attacks. Links
