Caryn Nuttall - Counsellor and Psychotherapist

What to look for in a counsellor/psychotherapist

I appreciate that taking the first step to seek counselling can be daunting. Research shows that the single most significant factor in predicting the outcome of therapy is the relationship between therapist and client. To be able to trust and confide in the therapist, it is vital for the client to have a sense of safety and to feel comfortable. A good way to start is by picking up the phone and speaking to the therapist. In my case, if I am with a client when a prospective client calls, I will tell you via my answer machine that I will return your call as soon as I can to discuss what might be most helpful way forward for you. This is confidential; you do not need a referral from a doctor or GP to see a psychotherapist.

Accreditation

I am accredited with the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapists), and I work to the UKCP and BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) codes of ethics.

Fees

My fee is £100 per session for individuals, couples £140. On weekends my fee is £120 per session for individuals, couples £160.

Cancellation Policy

To help me run my practice efficiently and fairly, I will need to charge the full fee for appointments missed or cancelled with less than a week's notice, apart from in exceptional circumstances. This allows me to assure availability for your next appointment.

Location

My practice is centrally located near Marble Arch, and is very convenient for public transport. Marble Arch and Edgware Road tubes are a 5 minute walk, taxis and buses are plentiful and the area is well supplied with parking meters. Paddington and Marylebone stations are close by. A map is on the next page.

Hours

This central location means clients are able to visit on their way to work, in their lunch hours, in the evenings, or any time in between. I am available for appointments during the daytime, evening and weekends.

Additional Support/Referrals

If a client requests, treatment can include a confidential referral to a psychiatrist for specialist advice on medication. I work in close cooperation with 2 consultant psychiatrists, Dr Lewis Clein and Dr Jeremy Royds.  Both doctors have practices nearby in Harley Street.

Some clients choose this option over seeing their GP because nothing they discuss with me or these psychiatrists goes on their medical records.  Privacy and confidentiality are assured.
